We had exhibited at the 21st International Jewelry Kobe, held at the Kobe International Exhibition Hall from 17/05/2017 to 19/05/2017, for 3 days．
The jewelry market is changing drastically. The jewelry market, which was said to have a market size of 3 trillion yen at the peak time, was halved in the mid-1990s, and now it has been sharply reduced. The amount of annual product sale of the jewelry product wholesale trade is 593 billion yen now, and decreasing year by year. This statistics indicates that sharp deterioration of jewelry business style, wholesaling manufactured products from imported materials, which is a process in our industry from a long time ago．
In addition, as the sales amount of the jewelry wholesale business declined, the number of business establishments decreased, and the number of employees working in the jewelry wholesale industry has also decreased sharply. It is unpopular among young generations, and may be said to be the declining industry that expected to have further decrease number of young workers in the future．
However, there are striking things about the growth of industries dealing with jewelry products which come from other than jewelry wholesale industries．There are many entries into the jewelry wholesale business from industries such as secondary distribution, finance, IT, etc., and each company is energetic. There are many companies that are larger in size than the traditional jewelry wholesale company,and the workers are also young．And,it seems that they are constantly seeking new directions and continuing to grow．
Even looking at the current jewelry show, the members of exhibitors has changed significantly since ten years ago．Such companies’ exhibits are prominent and popular, and highly attracting customers．Currently it can be said that the jewelry show itself does not feasible if such companies do not exhibit．Even if I looked at this jewelry show, this trend clearly appeared and many visitors were gathering at these companies．
Anyway, the Japanese buyers came much less than usual,and I had the impression that the current Japanese jewelry market is considerably stagnant. On the contrary, a lot of overseas’ buyers visited from the first day, and it was not an exaggeration to say that it was like a pre-sale of Hong Kong jewelry show．
Shanghai’s jewelry show which was held just before seemed to be successful, and a lot of buyers from such as China and Taiwan who had exhibited at the jewelry show in Shanghai also visited in order to replenish the merchandise．Overseas buyers does not purchase unless it is worth the price,but on the contrary there are many people said that budget is unlimited if price and quality match． They spent a couple of days checking many companies, compared and purchased． When we talked to such buyers, they said that they only purchase from the companies which have stock items that match the current needs．
I believe that if one cling to a well-established or old-fashioned company, it become very difficult to cope with the change of times. It seems that the jewelry wholesale business style will change further in the future. And, it would change beyond various fences including industry and the country． Moreover, unless it changes to a growing industry and gain popularity among the young generation, it is expected that the future of jewelry wholesale business will decline more and more． Our company is also working on the next change and we hope that we will be able to give new proposals to all of you．
