Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair was held from 9/19 for 7days. The European financial uneasiness caused by Greece, and also rising nation debt issue, particularly economic recession in India was concerned about, and the raw materials such as gold and the diamond were cashed. These actions brought the market price to fall immediately and the jewellery fair began in this kind to situation. Until the day before opening, we were so anxious about how this fair would go.
But, unexpectedly, our booth was full of buyers right after the opening and made us panic for a while. The purchasing will of the buyer from foreign countries was high and was surprised by Asian buyers such as Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and China in particular. In each country it seemed that they knew exactly what the marketable items were and what was not. And, they were eager to buy more of what they need.
Unlike Japanese buyers who were cautious about buying because of rapid movement of the market price, we had an impression that Asian buyers were willing to buy more regardless of the price. It is very difficult to predict how market price will change in near future. But we were encouraged that if we understand and prepare the needs of each country we might be able to respond to everyone visiting us. Thank you very much visiting us at this fair.
