Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair was held at the Convention & Exhibition Centre from 13/09/2013 to17/09/2013 for 5 days.
September 8th, Tokyo was elected as the host city for 2020 Olympic Games by IOC Session in Buenos Aires. After seeing the result, Nikkei Stock Average rose next day due to the anticipation for positive economic effect. Approximately 90% of stocks rose, especially on construction industry and sightseeing-related industry. And, as for the closing price, it was 14,200 yen, the highest level in one month and 344 yen higher than the end of last week. In addition, special procurements demands of land grew by the Olympic Games and the price of land became higher, around Tokyo area. Expectations of economic upturn in the future are increasing, and the atmosphere has become better.
However, when I paid more attention abroad, the issue of quantitative easing reduction by American FRB came emerged. Since the U.S. Dollar has been linked with developing countries (Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, India, Turkey, Brazil, etc.), these countries are tossed around by their concern about the outbreak of the bubble in addition to the ascent of consumer goods and house price. This issue was postponed for the time being on the 19th, but from the point of view that quantitative easing reduction would not be determined in December, the outflow of money from developing countries, the rise in prices, the issue of current account deficits, seems to continue. It is not the exaggeration even if I say that a rising nation supports the current world economy. Because it is expected that this problem, having many effects on our industry, might grow to various problems in the future, we must keep close watch on this matter.
This jewelry show was proud of a world’s largest scale now and there was a great turnout of guests at the exhibition. Crowded with buyers from various countries at the venue, it was like a bargain venue totally on the first day. There was no trend of selling goods in particular at this time, and were almost all needs from different countries, by each buyer. I received the impression that if price was reasonable they did not hesitate to buy.
However, the only loose diamond was not sold well. I felt again Indian Rupee depreciation affects Indian diamond market and price. Almost all Japanese-affiliated companies which exhibited this time seemed to have good sales, and the situation looks favor to Japanese companies. However, the price hike of various materials will be inevitable in Japan, and it will become more and more difficult to prepare materials which clients need. In spite of this kind of situation, we will continue to strive to meet the expectations of everyone who give us support at exhibitions. We are looking forward to see you at the next exhibition, and would like to express our gratitude to everyone who visited us at this fair.
